In The Mood For Love is one of those films that is really interesting that you don’t want to blink for a couple of hours. Wong Kar-Wai is a gifted director. Set in the late 60’s, the story revolves around to strange person who are neighbors in a rented apratment. The woman (Maggie Cheung) is marreid to a travelling businessman and is working at as a secretary. The man (Tony Leung) works as a journalist whos wife works in a bookstore who seems to be away too at times. As the story travels, they found out that their respective spouses are having an affair and soon became entangled with each other. But theirs is platonic. Although they tried never to be involved with one another, there path always crosses and always finds excuses to see each other.
Most of the times, I waited for them to get intimate but it never happened. Although the guy is very aggresive at times, the woman will ignore. They tried not to be like their spouses, as the woman said. In the midst of the growing emotion, they diverted their attentions into making a serial for a publication. They see more often but never a simple kiss happened.
It is a pleasure to see a movie like this once in awhile away from the much hyped and blockbuster movies. It makes you realize that indeed love is so powerful and it is up to us to ignore or received it. The ending gave a good resolution to the situation of both parties as they separate ways but still the longing is still present.
I’m out.
